5 tips for decorating your walls during lockdown.

It’s certainly strange times we are in at the moment. We here in Melbourne have been in lockdown for a few months now, which has meant we’ve not been able to do many of the things we once considered ‘normal’.

With all this extra time at home, you may have found yourself thinking of new ways to decorate spaces, and make the home a more pleasant place to be. We thought we’d compile a list of 5 things you can do during lockdown to decorate your home - in particular, your walls.

  1. Sort through your photos - Whether they are on your phone, or collecting dust in boxes, we’re all guilty of hoarding photos, and now is the perfect time to sort through your favourites, so you can get them up on your walls. Many people often think they need a piece of art to bring a wall/room to life - but creating a Gallery Wall or Family Photo Wall with photos you already have, can be a fantastic way to decorate your home.

  2. Get them printed and framed - These days, it’s easier than ever to order things online. Once you’ve narrowed down some of your favourite photos, jump online and have a look at some of the fantastic print and framing options available near you. Regardless of your budget, there should be a suitable option out there for you. Companies like Big W and Officeworks can print your photos from as low as 10-15 cents per print, and there are plenty of budget friendly stock frame options out there too. If you’d like a more premium and professional finish, there are fantastic local printing business such as CPL Digital and Prism Imaging who can help. There are some fantastic full service options that will print, frame and delivery your photos, such as Format Framing. Or if you’re after something a little more unique, why not get your photos printed On Stone? Please note that we are not affiliated with any of these businesses, just love what they do.

  3. Think outside the box - When you’re looking for things to hang on the wall, why be limited to your photos? There are things that could be sitting right under your nose, that could go on the wall. Decorative plates, masks, tapestries, thing’s you’ve collected on your travels, maybe even pot plants - they could all be included to make a stunning Gallery Wall. Even if they can’t be hung conventionally, why not pop them on a small shelf / picture ledge, like this one from IKEA?

  4. Hang your ISO-achievements - Iso-life has had us doing things we may not have previously had time to do. Did you try your hand at a colouring book, puzzle, or ‘paint-by-numbers’? Why not get it framed and on the wall? It can be a nice little memento to one of the strangest periods in our lifetime.

  5. Get them on your walls - Once you’ve sorted, selected and prepared your favourite pieces to decorate your walls, it’s time for the fun bit - getting them on your walls. Hanging them might seem like the next logical step, but you’d be surprised how many customers we meet that tell us they’ve had their pictures sitting on the floor for years - so don’t become another statistic! If you have the time, know-how, tools and confidence to do the job yourself, then it’s time to get to work. If however you’d like an expert to design your gallery wall and hang them safely, then feel free to contact us. With Melbourne hopefully coming out of lockdown soon, we’d be happy have a chat and book in a time to see you soon.
